Varanasi To Get Two New Corridors Along Ganga & Varun Riverbank
According to Moneycontrol, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved two major highway projects for Varanasi to improve connectivity and reduce traffic congestion. Together, the projects involve an investment of over ₹25,000 crore.
One of the approved projects is a 43.218-km corridor that will connect NH-31 with the Varanasi Ring Road along the River Varuna. To be built at an estimated cost of ₹10,998.32 crore, the project will feature a 4/6-lane predominantly elevated corridor with flyovers, loops, ramps, service roads, and the main carriageway. It will be developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
According to a Swarajya Magazine report, the corridor is a key part of the Varanasi Decongestion Plan and will provide seamless connectivity between NH-31 and Kashi Railway Station.

The CCEA also approved a 46.039-km corridor connecting NH-19 with the Varanasi Ring Road along the banks of the River Ganga. The project is aimed at improving connectivity while helping reduce traffic congestion across the city.
With an estimated cost of ₹14,447.64 crore, the corridor will include a six-lane elevated carriageway, an iconic cable-stayed bridge, an extradosed foot-over bridge-cum-major bridge, along with loops, ramps, link roads, and service roads. Like the first project, it will also be developed under HAM as well.
