Pope Leo XIV was born in Chicago, Illinois, in 1955. He joined the Order of Saint Augustine and later served as a missionary in Peru, where he became Bishop of Chiclayo. His years in South America shaped his pastoral outlook and strengthened his connection with diverse Catholic communities.
