Video Of Two Monitor Lizards Hugging Goes Viral

In a video posted on Twitter yesterday, the 28th of February, two monitor lizards are seen aggressively hugging each other. To humans, this may seem like hugging, however, the two monitor lizards are engaged in a battle.

Humans don’t often hug in a battle which is why it can seem confusing to us. However, what the two lizards are really doing is trying to dominate each other. Asserting one’s dominance over another is a common practice in the animal kingdom.

The video was posted by a Twitter user called Nupur along with the caption “A normal day at IIM Calcutta.” Since it was posted yesterday, the tweet has garnered more than 4.8 thousand views. It has also received more than 400 retweets.

Another user said “Post-placement season celebration.” “Love in the air” commented one user. One commenter said “Jaadu ki jhappi is universal” referencing the famous dialogue from the Bollywood hit Munna Bhai MBBS.

Monitor Lizards are pretty common in India. They can be spotted in many places with dense greenery. IIM Calcutta, evidently, is one of the places where you can spot these unique reptiles. The University of Hyderabad, too, has monitor lizards on its campus.
