A smoking laptop in a passenger’s carry-on bag prompted evacuation on an American Airlines flight on Friday. The flight was headed to Miami from San Francisco International Airport. As the plane was boarding at the gate, the flight’s crew reported smoke in the cabin which prompted the evacuation process. Three passenger were reported injured while evaluating the flight.

Smoking Laptop On American Airlines Flight Causes Chaos At SFO

A Miami-bound American Airlines flight was evacuated on Friday due to smoke from a passenger’s laptop. According to the flight’s crew, while the plane was taxiing to the gate, some crew members noticed smoke in the cabin area. They found smoke emerging from a laptop in a carry-on bag of one of the passengers.

The bag was “quickly removed” by crew members. The fire tenders on the spot inspected the laptop bag on the tarmac. After inspection, they placed the bag in a water-filled container along with the laptop.

According to a WION report, the whole incident caused an uproar among the passengers. Videos and photos circulating online show panicked passengers waiting to evacuate using emergency slides. People can be seen shouting and trying to calm children on the flight.

The American Airlines flight 2045 was scheduled to depart San Francisco International Airport at 12:15 PM for Miami. However, after the smoking laptop was detected, the flight departed later on Friday.

3 Injured During Evacuation; Federal Aviation Administration To Investigate

Due to the smoke coming from the laptop on the American Airlines flight, chaos and panic were noted among the passengers. Three people, reportedly, sustained injuries during the evacuation process. While their injuries were minor, they were taken to the nearby hospital for immediate medical assistance.

A spokesperson from American Airlines confirmed the news and said, “The bag was removed by our crew members and all passengers exited the aircraft. We thank our crew members for their professionalism and apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”

The Federal Aviation Administration has said that they will investigate the matter further to know what caused the smoke in the laptop and more.
