Viral Video Of How Salted Peas Are Made Invokes Netizen’s Disgust

This particular video shows the making of a beloved snack. Usually, when you watch these videos, the feeling it invokes is not disgust. But for this video, it is. This particular video shows the making of a beloved snack, salted peas.

The video was shared on the popular social media website, Instagram by a self-described digital creator Saloni Bothra. The video was supplemented along with a caption that expressed astonishment at the process of making these salted.

Firstly, calling them salted peas is sort of a misnomer. These aren’t peas at all. These are chanas or chickpeas. They are first soaked in water. Take special note of the colour of the water in which the chickpeas are being soaked.

The man then takes the chickpeas out of the water, with his bare hands we should mention, and sprinkles coloured powder on the chickpeas. He then mixes it all together and spreads it out to dry. Did we mention that he’s doing it all with his dirty bare hands?

He then takes the green chickpeas to deep fry them. In order to drain out the oil, the man puts the chickpeas inside a centrifuge to drain it of excess oil. Then, it is salted to an absurd degree, and mixed together again.

Netizens have taken to the comment section to express their disgust and disbelief. Disbelief because they thought that the chickpeas they’d been consuming all their lives were naturally green and, disgust because the process is extremely unhygienic.
