Moreover, tempering mustard seeds and cumin seeds in hot oil before cooking is beneficial for your gut health too. How? Ralston explains that it releases thymol, which supports digestion. Also, thymol has anti-microbial properties. Another hack involves squeezing lime on cooked dal. Just as you guessed, which in turn leads to a 300% rise in iron absorption.

Coming to South Indian cuisine fans, Ralston D’Souza advises them to ferment their idli batter for a longer time. The fitness coach explains that it increases the vitamin B and folate content of the dish. At the same time, it reduces anti-nutrients. So, this means consuming such long-fermented idlis would improve your gut health and nutrient absorption. More importantly, it’s easier to digest such food.
