The legendary Piyush Mishra invited our Editor-in-Chief, Kamiya Jani, for a soulful Chettinad-style meal cooked by his wife Priya at their Versova home. On this Sunday Brunch episode, the writer-actor opened up about meeting his wife and the hurdles they crossed to get married. The story of their wedding is as filmy as Piyush Mishra himself!

Piyush Mishra And His Wife Priya Eloped

While savouring a sumptuous home-cooked meal of Malabar Parota, Rasam, Lentil Vada and Chicken, Piyush Mishra spoke about the differences in the Hindi and South Indian film industries, his admiration for Ranbir Kapoor, and his disdain for starry tantrums thrown by Bollywood stars. He praised the humility shown by people in South India, which he often observes while shooting for films in Hyderabad.

Kamiya asked him about how he met his wife. To this, Piyush shared that he met her at Delhi’s prestigious School of Planning and Architecture in Delhi. Priya studied at the school while Piyush attended the institute for a play. When he met Priya, he made up his mind to get married to her. The couple dated for three years. The actor shared that Priya’s father belonged to the Army. He was a colonel, while Piyush was a theatre artist with constrained finances.

He First Met His Wife In Delhi

Priya’s father refused to get his daughter married to Piyush. So, the couple did the unthinkable! They eloped. The feisty lady ran away from her home in Chennai with Piyush and married him in Delhi. With no government documents in hand, the couple befriended a lawyer who helped them get married. His parents never had a problem with their marriage.

So, have Priya’s parents finally accepted Piyush as their son-in-law? The playwright explains that things were sorted within a year of their marriage. Her family accepted Piyush after understanding his profession and social status.
