Northeast India is grappling with a severe flood-like situation right now. Amid incessant rainfall, parts of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, and Mizoram have been put on high alert for floods. About 11 lakh people in the region have been affected by this flood-like situation and 38 people have died over the past few days.

The situation is, reportedly, the worst in Assam. Most deaths due to the floods have been reported in this state and there seems to be no relief from the rain anytime soon. Seeing the heavy downpours and the rising levels of rivers in the state, Manipur has declared holidays in educational institutions for two days. As per IMD’s forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in Northeast India in the next few days.

IMD has also issued an orange alert in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Tripura, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh on July 3.

As per their latest X (formerly Twitter) update, light to moderate rainfall at many places, with occasional intense spells, is likely over Uttar Pradesh, North Punjab, North & West Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bihar, North Odisha, and South Gangetic West Bengal.
