How Does Intermittent Fasting Work, And What Are Its Patterns?
Intermittent fasting (IF) is a method where the body temporarily stops digesting food, potentially leading to the burning of fat for energy instead of glucose from carbohydrates.
There are different ways people can adapt to intermittent fasting, like time-restricted eating, which involves eating normally within a specific time frame, such as 10 AM to 6 PM, and fasting the rest of the day. Alternate-day fasting involves eating normally one day and either fasting or eating a small meal the next. 5:2 fasting involves eating normally five days a week and restricting diet to 75% or less.
Intermittent fasting comes with its benefits like improved blood sugar levels, lower blood pressure, reduced heart disease risk, gut health improvement, better sleep, lower inflammatory markers, cell repair, and brain health protection.
