A few months back, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar launched the Haryana Antyodaya Parivar Parivahan Yojana (HAPPY) scheme. This scheme provides free travel up to 1,000 km on Haryana Roadways buses to members of financially weaker families or the Antyodaya families. With this facility, people can travel for free on the Haryana Roadways buses 1,000 km in a period of one year.

The beneficiaries of these schemes are issued smart cards – Happy Cards – that are linked to an e-ticketing system. These cards are to be tapped while travelling in Haryana Roadways buses. They record the kilometres travelled by the passenger and ensure proper usage of this scheme.

These cards are available for families with an annual income of up to ₹1 lakh. As per data, this benefit of free travel is available to 22.89 lakh families, that is, for more than 84 lakh people in the state.
