As a proud South Indian, I can vouch for my fellow homies that there is nothing quite as satisfying as tucking into a plate of hot rice, brimming with peppery, aromatic tomato rice, topped with fresh ghee with crispy papad on the side. It’s like a warm hug in a bowl. In a day and age when no dish is spared from the fusion trend, rasam has landed in martini glasses as cocktails and on the soup section of menus. An influencer recently turned pale on seeing rasam being poured from a French Press.
The Kurta Guy Reacts To Rasam Steeped In French Press
Vividh Ashok AKA @thekurtaguy is known for his reaction videos where he gives his hilarious take on the most outrageous South Indian fusion dishes. This time, The Kurta Guy reacted to a video from the Surat-based Anavrin cafe. In the video, a server is seen pouring hot rasam out of a French Press. “What is rasam doing in a French Press?” he asks.
He joked about the South Indian soup going through an evolution — from the soup section of a 5-star menu to being served in a martini glass. The influencer goes on to rightly add that French pressing rasam shall filter the best parts— tadka, coriander leaves and tomato morsels— out of the soup. “The beauty is in the texture of the rasam in your mouth,” he adds passionately. A simple dish was earlier spotted at ITC Grand Chola.

Netizens Demand Simplicity In Food
Instead, he calls the rasam steeped in a French Press, “rasam-flavoured hot water”. If one lets this one go, you can expect”sambar in a beer mug”, “buttermilk in a champagne glass” and “dal on the rocks”, explains Vividh. “Simple is better,” he stresses. In his video, he explains that there isn’t any need to present dishes. In a way that they need to be served to the judges on MasterChef.
Not surprisingly, his reel resonated with loyal rasam lovers. One commentator said her eyes were hurting after seeing this new trend. Many others agreed with Vividh and simple is better when it comes to comfort food. Others joked about people ruining dosa and contemplating that rasam was the next in line. Another commentator wrote, “RIP Rasam.”
