When our parents and grandparents were young, social media and dating apps were non-existent. Stories of them falling in love and finding their soulmates have always been interesting. Walking up to someone they liked and approaching them was indeed daring. Now, we find our dates mostly on dating apps. Spain is taking a U-turn to the real world to find partners. Ditching the online platforms, they are bouncing back to connecting with people offline. A trend of pineapple dating is going viral in Spain and here’s everything about it.

What Is Pineapple Dating?

Single people in Spain found a one-of-a-kind gesture to interact with their potential partners, and pineapple has a huge role to play in this new phenomenon. Taking the long route of meeting people and finding love in the old-fashioned way, young single people in Spain are heading to the Mercadona supermarket. The process is unconventional but quite simple. Singles are grabbing a pineapple and keeping it in their shopping carts.

The trick is to place it upside-down and wish for a dreamy encounter with the special someone. The upside-down fruit symbolises the person carrying the cart is single and looking for love or special connections. If someone among the customers likes anyone present at the local store, he/she can bump his/her cart with the other person. If the next person also bumps carts, they are ready to take the next step.

The quirky trend of pineapple dating in Spain is going viral like crazy on social media, especially TikTok. More and more singles are approaching people with this much-talked-about gesture. The young generation is clearly frustrated with the endless right and left swipes on dating apps and pineapple dating looks like a fresh, new, and quite realistic way to find someone IRL and take a step to strike up a conversation.

With more singles rushing to Mercadona stores to follow the dating trend, the demand for this fruit is skyrocketing. The stores did not have any pineapples left because of the soaring popularity of this dating trend, according to a report by Moneycontrol.

Well, let me share that the effectiveness of this dating craze is quite uncertain. While many are succeeding in romantic encounters, some are returning with broken hearts. Also, people can try finding someone special at the supermarket outlets only between 7 PM and 8 PM.
