On June 2, 2014, by the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, Telangana was officially declared the 29th state of India. Since then, this day has been celebrated as Telangana Formation Day or simply, Telangana Day. The day is celebrated in full gusto with parades and performances. In fact, celebrations are held in all 33 districts of the state on this day.

An independent state earlier, Telangana was merged with Andhra Pradesh in 1956. After years of the Telangana movement, this new state was born out of Andhra Pradesh and received the assent of the President of India in March 2014. With Hyderabad as its capital, Telangana is now the eleventh-largest state and the twelfth-most populated state in India.
