Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation announced the launch of a beautiful initiative recently – Vantara. Now, if you’re wondering what this initiative is about, then you have come to the right place. Vantara is a rescuing, treating, caring, and rehabilitating centre for animals in Gujarat’s Jamnagar. Spread across 3,000 acres, this animal shelter is now home to more than 2,000 animals across 43 species. This is Anant Ambani’s pet project as he is known for his love for animals and that passion helped him come up with this initiative.

Vantara: A State-Of-The-Art Home For Over 2,000 Rescued Animals

Vantara means Star Of The Forest and is a dedicated centre for abused and threatened animals from India and abroad. This shelter is the brainchild of Anant Ambani and the Reliance Foundation. It is built at Reliance’s Jamnagar Refinery Complex and is spread across 3,000 acres of land. This rescue centre hopes to recreate a sylvan atmosphere for the rescued animals to give them a lush habitable environment. There are also renowned wildlife experts here that will help treat and rehabilitate the animals.

Considered to be the world’s largest animal rescue and rehabilitation centre, Vantara has state-of-the-art healthcare, hospitals, research, and academic centres for animals. In the press release by Reliance Foundation, they also mentioned that Vantara will collaborate with renowned animal protection organisations such as the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) for the protection of animals.

In the press conference, Anant Ambani mentioned that they started the rescue centre during the peak of COVID. Now, over the past few years, they have rescued more than 200 elephants. They have also saved several reptiles and birds from being sold off and hunted. They also aim to include rhino, leopard, and crocodile rehabilitation at this centre. In fact, they have collaborated with international rescue centres in Mexico and Venezuela for animal protection and rehabilitation.

As of now, there are more than 2,000 animals, across 43 species at Vantara. These include 200 elephants, over 300 leopards, tigers, lions, and jaguars, 300 herbivores like deer, and over 1,200 reptiles such as crocodiles, snakes, and turtles.
