Ever since the COVID-19 pandemic started, a lot of information related to the virus got circulated on social media platforms. While a few of these circulated messages might have been genuine, there have been many pieces of information that were also misleading the masses. A report claiming that coronavirus can be cured by home remedies like pepper, ginger and honey also made rounds on platforms like Facebook, WhatsApp and Twitter. The report even stated that World Health Organization (WHO) has approved the remedy. However, Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check took to Twitter to inform that the news is fake. PIB States That The Pepper-Honey-Ginger Home Remedy Is Fake
PIB Fact Check dismissed the claims that home remedy with pepper, ginger and honey can cure coronavirus. The tweet stated, “A #Farzi news is claiming that a student of Pondicherry University has found a home remedy for # COVID19 and has also been approved by @WHO. #PIBFactCheck Do not share such confusing messages. VC Of Pondicherry University Rejected The Claim
The Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University has also rejected the claim that one of the students of the university had found the cure, according to a Boom report. A message that circulated on WhatsApp stated, “Finally Ramu, an Indian student at the University of Pondicherry, has discovered a home remedy for Covid-19, first accepted by WHO. He proved that by mixing 2 tablespoons of honey and 1 tablespoon pepper powder in ginger juice for 5 consecutive days, the effect of corona can be suppressed and eventually 100% removed.” But Gurmeet Singh, the Vice-Chancellor of Pondicherry University as well as PIB Fact Check rejected the claims.
