Pongal is a harvest festival in Tamil Nadu, where Lord Surya is worshipped. During the 4-day long festival, Sakkarai Pongal ( sweet pongal) and Melagu Pongal (pepper pongal) are prepared. While Tamil Nadu celebrated Pongal, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka rejoiced in Makar Sankranti festivities and Punjab danced to Lohri. Amidst this festive season, Twitter had quite a field day when a Netizen’s friend from abroad mistook Pongal for a Coachella festival. Read on!

Twitterati’s White Friend Mistakes Pongal To Be Like Coachella

A Twitterati, @twopointhoe_ (whiskeyblues) shared a picture of her WhatsApp chat with a friend from the USA.  In the chat, the Twitterati informs that it is Pongal festival on the 14th of January. Her friend then asks her who is the headliner, and if it’s an Indian. Mind-boggled by the question she replies that Pongal is a Tamil harvest festival. The “white” friend reveals to have thought it to be like Coachella, where usually big festivals have headliners.

The Twitterati then added a bunch of laughing emojis and tells the friend that she is cracking up. She captioned the WhatsApp picture as her attempt to explain Indian festivals to her white friends. Well, this was a truly hilarious moment. The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, held at the Empire Polo Club in California is one of the most famous music and art festivals in the world. There is music, art, food and booze to get the party started.

Netizen Jokes That Sambhar Vada Is The Opening Act

When it comes to the Twitterati’s “white friend” mistaking Pongal to be like a Coachella festival, Twitter had quite a field day. One Netizen hilariously commented that the headliner is ven pongal with chutney is the headliner while sambhar with vada is the opening act. Another Netizen remembered his ordeal when he tried to explain holi to his white friends. Well, the trouble is real.
