If you were planning to stock up on your favourite drinks for the weekend, you might want to make other plans. All retail liquor shops across Delhi will remain closed on October 9 and 10, following an order issued by the Delhi government’s Excise Department to maintain public order. Scroll on to know more about this.

Delhi Liquor Shops To Be Shut For Two Days

According to India Today, the decision was taken as a precautionary measure based on inputs received from the Delhi Police. As per the order dated October 8, retail liquor outlets operating under specified excise licences will have to remain completely shut for both days. This means residents will not be able to purchase alcohol from retail liquor vends across the national capital on Friday and Saturday.

The closure comes at a time when Delhi is witnessing heightened political activity surrounding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. Opposition parties have been demanding his resignation over alleged irregularities in the electoral process, with further demonstrations planned in the city. The administration’s decision to shut liquor shops is aimed at preventing any disruption to public order.

Will Bars And Restaurants In Delhi Remain Open?

While retail liquor shops will remain closed for two days, there is some relief for those planning to head out over the weekend. Licensed bars, clubs, hotels and restaurants will continue to serve alcohol as usual, according to reports. The restriction applies to retail liquor outlets and does not mean a complete ban on the sale and service of alcohol across the city.

The order covers retail outlets operating under various excise licence categories, including those selling Indian-made foreign liquor, foreign liquor, country liquor and beer. The closure applies across Delhi rather than being limited to specific neighbourhoods.

Residents should keep the two-day restriction in mind while planning their weekend, especially if they were expecting to pick up drinks from their regular liquor store.
