According to HT, Air India will reduce 15% of its wide-body international flights due to multiple operational and safety reasons. The decision follows a recent plane crash on June 12 and growing geopolitical tensions between Israel and Iran, which have impacted airspace across the Middle East. The cuts will affect flights using Boeing 787 and 777 aircraft and will remain in effect until at least mid-July, as per the airline’s statement.

As per India TV News, Air India said the curtailments were necessary after the tragic Air India Flight AI-171 incident on June 12. The event triggered tighter safety audits and increased inspection protocols for wide-body aircraft. The airline also cited other reasons like increasing political tensions in the Middle East, night curfews in parts of Europe and East Asia that have affected airspace and disrupted the flight routes and schedules. They also added that ongoing technical and weather-related challenges have further delayed aircraft turnaround times.

Airline Reassures Passengers To Minimise Inconvenience

Air India has reassured passengers that they will be informed in advance of any changes to their flights. They are also offering alternate flight options, free rescheduling, or full refunds without penalties. Moreover, the airline expressed deep sorrow over the recent crash and confirmed that a formal investigation is underway. They are working closely with the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), and other authorities to determine the cause of the crash. They also aim to further strengthen their safety checks on all their aircraft.
