Celebrity chef Heston Blumenthal has shared some big news about his popular London restaurant, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal. After running successfully for many years, the restaurant will close next year. Known for its creative dishes and historic British recipes, the restaurant has been a favourite among food lovers for over a decade.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal In London Is Shutting Down
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is located inside the luxury Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park hotel in London. The restaurant opened in 2011 and quickly became one of the city’s most talked-about dining spots. People from around the world visited to experience its unique menu and storytelling through food. According to Time Out, however, the restaurant will keep serving guests only until January 2027. After that, it will permanently shut its doors.
Speaking about the decision in an interview with The Times, Heston Blumenthal admitted that the moment feels emotional. After spending so many years building the restaurant, the closure naturally brings a sense of sadness. At the same time, he described it as bittersweet. According to the chef, the restaurant has simply reached the end of its journey.

Why This Restaurant Is Closing?
Blumenthal also explained a practical reason behind the closure. His team operates the restaurant as tenants inside the hotel building. Since their tenancy agreement is coming to an end, the restaurant will close once that period finishes.
The chef also talked about the bigger challenges that restaurants face today. Many businesses in the industry are struggling in different ways. Rising food prices have made things especially difficult for restaurants. As ingredient costs continue to increase, it becomes harder for many places to manage their operations smoothly.
He also spoke about the partnership with the Mandarin Oriental hotel. Blumenthal said they chose to work with the hotel because of its excellent service standards. However, he added that hotels and restaurants usually work within fixed budgets. Sometimes those budgets don’t fully match the needs of a restaurant, which can make operations complicated.
Despite the closure announcement, Dinner by Heston Blumenthal has enjoyed a very successful journey. The restaurant earned its first Michelin star in 2012 and a second star in 2014.
According to NDTV, while the London restaurant will close, Heston Blumenthal will still continue running his famous restaurant, The Fat Duck in Bray, Berkshire. The Fat Duck first opened in 1995 and remains one of the chef’s most iconic dining destinations.
