Onam is a prominent festival and a major annual event for the Keralites. The Indian harvest festival commemorates King Mahabali and Vamana. The entire state waits for this auspicious day. In fact, the streets of Trivandrum, or Thiruvananthapuram, have been illuminated with lights on the occasion of Onam!

Onam: Kerala’s Trivandrum Is Illuminated With Lights

The traditional harvest holiday Onam has begun! And this year’s theme is “Onam, Oru Eenam” (Onam, the symphony of harmony). Videos of Trivandrum’s streets surfaced on the social media site, X. The videos featured lit-up streets on the occasion of Onam. Images depict people walking through the illuminated city’s lively and colourful streets.

This year, Onam, an important cultural event in the state of Kerala, was celebrated from August 20 to August 31. According to the story, King Mahabali, also known as Maveli, returns during the ten-day Thiru-Onam or Thiruvonam celebrations, which are filled with excitement and joy.

This colourful celebration serves as a symbol of Kerala’s illustrious cultural legacy. Atham ceremonies marked the beginning of Kerala’s 10-day Onam festival. It is a celebration in honour of Vamana and King Mahabali.

Celebration Of This Auspicious Festival

To greet the king, people started building floral carpets (Pookkalam) in front of their homes and businesses. In fact, the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvananthapuram also celebrated the festival. With dance, music and different cultural activities, the students enjoyed themselves!

People typically don traditional kasavu saris and mundu (dhoti) during the Onam celebration. It is a time when friends and family get together and exchange gifts, such as brand-new outfits.

The creation of Onasadya, a unique vegetarian feast, is one of the highlights of the Onam celebrations. Individual food items are prepared at home and shared with others at the festival.

The Malayalam calendar’s Chingam month, which ushers in Onam, is celebrated. Additionally, this is a major occasion for businessesand purchasing different things is a common practice. Large discounts are another marketing strategy used by stores.

For the next ten days, Kerala will be rejoicing. People gather and celebrate by singing a well-known song.
