A Reddit post titled “Am I really dying?” by a Bengaluru man (@just_ibu_reads) has gained a lot of attention on social media. The Bengaluru man called himself “a corporate slave in India, stuck in a toxic work culture”. He talked about how for nearly three years now, he has worked for 14-16 hours daily.

In a concerning revelation, he shared that he has gained 24 kgs since August 2022 because of his desk job and lack of other activities. “My sleep schedule is completely messed up—some nights I sleep at 2 AM, some at 11 PM, but I’m always in the office by 9 AM,” he further mentioned about his sleep cycle.

He shared that his lack of work-life balance has left his mother worried and also jeopardised his relationship with his girlfriend. He said that while his girlfriend is the only “consistent, positive thing” in his life, he hasn’t been able to give her much time due to work pressure.

The man has been “meeting deadlines, helping peers, and pushing my limits” at work. And while this has helped him grow work-wise, he has come to realise that he has no personal life! “I haven’t travelled anywhere in 2.5 years—not even to Nandi Hills, right here in Bangalore,” he further revealed.

One of them shared, “I have been there in a similar situation 4 years back. After feeling the same exactly as you, I asked for leaves which were rejected. And the same thing continued for 2 more months And I was exhausted. Felt like hell. Health was seriously upset and was on treatment for 2 weeks. Forced sick leave no one can deny. Realised the importance of WLB. And fast forward to this day. I have my limits. Where I work only for 8 hours a day. Let it be any priority. I don’t want to extend my time beyond 8hrs.”

Another one said, “You need a break. You honestly do. No “change your job” advice. You need a break. It’s the easiest and least stressful thing you can do.” One of them advised, “Speaking from personal experience do not compromise on health, you can earn all the money in the world but won’t get your health back.”
