The United Nations Population Division has estimated that the world population will reach 8 billion on November 15th. The UN’s World Population Prospects 2022 report’s projection states that it will reach 8.5 billion by 2030. It will reach 9.7 billion by 2050 and 10.4 billion by 2080. The projections also showed that India might surpass China’s population by 2023.
World Population Projections
The population estimate for 2022 is three times higher than the headcount in 1950. The UN said that the population will keep growing after November 15, but at a slower pace due to regional disparities. According to UN Population Fund spokesperson Rachel Snow, the global population growth rate has sharply slowed.
In 2021, 2.3 children were born on average to each woman over her lifetime. According to the UN, this number is going to fall to 2.1 by 2050. Another factor is that life expectancy is increasing. In 2019, the life expectancy was 72.8 years, and it is predicted to rise to 77.2 years by 2050. The proportion of people above the age of 65 is estimated to increase from 10 per cent to 16 per cent by 2050.

China’s Population To Decline By 2050
UN projects that most of this increase in population will be from India, Pakistan, Nigeria, Ethiopia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Tanzania, the Philippines, and Egypt. In this race of changing trends, it is predicted that India might surpass China to become the most populous country on the globe.
According to the UN’s projections, China’s population of 1.4 billion will begin to decline and fall to 1.3 billion by 2050. By the end of this century, China’s population will be only 800 million. Despite the fact that India’s fertility rate has fallen below the replacement level, a surpass is possible.
