Cantina OK!, a tiny mezcal bar in Sydney, has earned a place on the World’s 50 Best Bars longlist for 2024. This charming venue was named the 96th best bar in the world, a proud moment for the Australian bar scene. Melbourne’s Above Board, a sleek cocktail bar, also made the cut, coming in at number 100. Both bars have been celebrated for their unique offerings, with Cantina OK! standing out for its focus on mezcal and margaritas.

World’s 50 Best Bars List Is Out

The World’s 50 Best Bars list is a prestigious ranking that has been published annually since 2009. It highlights the finest bars from around the globe, with over 700 experts from the drinks industry involved in the voting process. The longlist, which ranks bars from 51 to 100, covers 35 cities. This year, the official top 50 list will be revealed at a ceremony in Madrid on October 22. Both Cantina OK! and Above Board have been listed before, though at higher ranks, but making it onto the list again is still a significant achievement.

Cantina OK! is no stranger to praise. Known for its intimate, standing-room-only setting in a laneway, it was ranked 41st in the world in 2022. Despite the drop to 96th this year, the recognition remains a major win for this small venue. The bar’s team just returned from Mexico with a fresh selection of rare mezcals, and they’ve launched a new cocktail menu, making it an exciting time to visit.
