The Motera Stadium, now renamed as Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium, has undergone a phenomenal revamp and is hosting the international day-night pink ball India-England Test Match now. The match started on February 24, 2021, and will continue till February 28. The stadium covers over 63 acres of land and has a seating capacity of 1,32,000 spectators, exceeding the Melbourne Cricket Ground. Here’s all you need to know about the stadium.

The Stadium Covers An Area Equal To 32 Olympic Size Soccer Fields Put Together

President Ram Nath Kovind inaugurated the Narendra Modi Cricket Stadium in Ahmedabad’s Motera on February 24, 2021, ahead of the third Test between India and England. Till now, the Melbourne Cricket Ground had the largest capacity of 90,000 spectators. The Narendra Modi Stadium has surpassed its seating capacity. The stadium at Motera has an enormous seating capacity of 1,32,000 spectators, which for the time being has been reduced to 55,000 spectators due to COVID-19. The Narendra Modi Stadium covers a total area of 2,38,714 square metres, which is equal to 32 Olympic size soccer fields put together. The stadium’s 55-room clubhouse comprises a 3D-Mini theatre, an Olympic size swimming pool and a squash court. Also, here are the 5 largest cricket stadiums in India.

It Has Advanced LED Lights Instead Of Floodlights

The stadium does not have traditional floodlights. Instead, it has advanced shadow-less LED lights. It also has a Cricket Academy for training and 11 centre pitches. This is the first and only cricket stadium in the world to have four dressing rooms for the players. Also, the stadium has a parking facility for 3000 cars and 10,000 two-wheelers. The stadium also comprises badminton and table-tennis courts. According to plans, the Narendra Modi Stadium will be connected to the metro station via a skywalk to reduce road congestion.

Larsen & Toubro built the new stadium and it had taken over its construction work in December 2016. Australian architect firm Populous is the architect for the stadium.
