You must have seen people riding to the highest motorable road in the world in Ladakh, Umling La. A few celebrities have also achieved this feat and posted about it. But this pass will soon become the second-highest. This is because construction of the world’s new highest motorable road has begun in Ladakh at 19,400 feet. Keep reading to know more in detail about this new development.

World’s New Highest Motorable Road In Ladakh

The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has started constructing the world’s new highest motorable road in the Demchok sector of Ladakh on this Independence Day.

The ‘Likaru-Mig La-Fukche’ strategic road, which will be built over the coming two working seasons, will pass through the highest point on Earth at a height of roughly 19,400 feet.

In the sensitive Fukche area, the 64-kilometer-long route will connect the military’s furthest outposts. Given that Fukche is three kilometers away from the Line of Actual Control (LAC), this is important for security reasons.

At Umling La in Ladakh, the highest motorable road in the world is now located at a height of 19,024 feet.

BRO To Break Its Own Record

The Border Roads Organization will shatter its own record for the highest motorable road with the completion of this project. On the occasion of the 77th Independence Day, @BROindia posted a video on X (formerly Twitter) about this important strategic route in Ladakh.

According to reports, the Likaru-Mig La-Fukche road’s construction was started by a BRO unit led entirely by women. The road work is being overseen by a five-person team of female combat engineers under the direction of Colonel Ponung Doming.

Also, the BRO will start two significant initiatives. These include the Shinku La tunnel, which connects Manali with Leh via Zanskar and will, upon completion, break the previous record held by China’s MiLa tunnel.

Additionally, the BRO is constructing the “Nyoma Airfield” in eastern Ladakh. According to the organization’s head, Lt. General Rajeev Chaudhry, it will be one of the tallest airfields in the world once it is finished. (As per Hindustan Times)
