Do you often travel long distances on trains? In a country of more than 140 crores, trains are surely one of the most-used transportation modes. Lakhs and crores of passengers use this transportation facility every day. On longer journeys, many passengers prefer their suitable seats for comfort but not everyone can get the seats they desire. Recently, a man booked over 40 tickets on IRCTC and hardly got lower berths.
X User Wants To Sue IRCTC; Here’s Why
Taking to X, Sambit Nayak (@sambitnk) shared his experience of booking tickets on IRCTC and the tickets that he got in return.
I booked 46 tickets on irctc. 24 to the destination and 22 return tickets.
Got 1 lower berth in 24 and 1 SL in 22.
Any kind hearted lawyer here who can help me pro bono sue irctc? Ticket karke saare paise khatam ho gaye.

According to the X post made by Sambit Nayak, he booked a total of 46 tickets on the IRCTC platform. Out of these 46 tickets, 24 have been booked for passengers travelling to the destination. The rest 22 have been booked for people returning. In this huge number of tickets booked on IRCTC, Sambit Nayak was surprised to get only 1 lower berth ticket among the 24 tickets for going to the destination. And in the lot of 22 return tickets, he got just 1 SL. Quite surprising, right?
There have been many instances when people often did not get lower seats due to unavailability. However, booking 46 tickets and not getting enough lower berths clearly came as a major surprise for the man who booked everything. He even asked for help from lawyers who could help him to “pro bono sue IRCTC”.
On a serious note, what does this even mean. If 2 senior citizens are traveling they can’t climb the upper berths.
But if 6 65+ people are traveling, they can climb the upper berth?
Can someone from @IRCTCofficial @RailwaySeva explain the logic? pic.twitter.com/l5dPX8BWJn

Also, he made a post about notification of ‘Confirmation’ stating about the “Lower Berth/ Sr. Citizen Quota berths”.

Netizens React To The Viral Post About Booking 46 Tickets On IRCTC
Sambit’s X post went viral in just a few hours. It has not been even a day since posting and it already garnered over 110K views. There are tons of comments shared by X users where they suggested tips to get lower berths on trains. Apart from the Senior Citizens and Ladies quota, choosing “book only when 2 lower births allotted” and booking from the “reservation centres” might turn out to be effective options.
A lot of LB are kept for Sr Citizen and Ladies quota. Lot of SLB are for RAC. Yet as a solo traveller I have had 50% success rate at getting SLB. Always via the IRCTC app. Other platforms are crapshoot.

I tried every trick in the book. I mean the ones I know. Preference, senior citizen/Lower berth quota, women with kid, “book at least if 2 lower berths are alloted”, “book at least if 1 lower berth is alloted”.
Nothing worked. Someone in irctc has blacklisted my id.

I booked ticket early when reservation start. Total 7 passengers
123 seats was available.

Got 2 lower birth confirmed.
Book early too get lower births

First we need to sue IRCTC for fatal cancellation charges.
There are chances that ppl may cancel due to last moment change or they might have booked wrong source destination in a tatkal booking hurry.
But we get zero refund for tatkal cancellation.

You have to book tickets when 200 – 300 seats available. If you book too late it is impossible to get seats of your choice
— Anil Yadav (@Anilyadav519) March 18, 2024
Book only if lower berth available is the option.. it gives a pop up just after putting in payment details if the mentioned criteria is not met ! Not sure of any other option !

It depends on how many seats were available? And how many days before you book your ticket. We recently did bulk booking. And worked well. Got lower births for all those whom we needed.

For smaller groups like 2-4 my experience in providing our choice is well taken. Very happy about IRCTC, my experience with tatkal is also good

Change your age and make yourself senior citizen

Nowadays people who have attained moksh or ppl who have no emotions can only travel thru railways. There is nothing good left in them. Bas ehsaan kar rahe hai hum desh vasio par.

If you book from reservation centres you get the desired seats. Speaking from experience
