Moviegoers Upset With PVR’s Dynamic Ticket Pricing
Has @bookmyshow /@_PVRCinemas introduced dynamic pricing for movie tickets? I booked a ticket for a Twisters show for tonight earlier which is now dearer by 10% on listings. Is this normal?

X (formerly Twitter) user, @Dilliwasi, posted about the fluctuating price of his movie ticket in a PVR INOX theatre on Saturday. In his tweet, he asked if PVR has “introduced dynamic pricing for movie tickets?” as the ticket prices for the same show kept getting expensive. To this, PVR INOX replied that the multiplex chain has “ come up with dynamic pricing to give customers the added benefit of getting tickets at a lucrative rate.”

For a little understanding, dynamic pricing lets the company adjust the prices of their products, in this case, movie ticket prices, based on various external factors. As per Business.com, With this strategy, the company can continuously adjust the prices of their products in response to real-time supply and demand.
Hence the prices can fluctuate. Let me assure you that you weren’t overcharged and that the per-ticket cost was indeed at the time of booking. -Lavanya (2/2)

As per Mint’s report, PVR INOX saw its F&B business grow faster than box office ticket sales after they introduced various offers for their customers. However, this new strategy has again upset moviegoers. While the timeline of this dynamic ticket pricing strategy isn’t clear, it can be seen by the reactions online that it has been in place for the past few months.
What Netizens Have To Say About This Pricing Strategy
Movie buffs took to X (formerly Twitter) to show how upset they are with PVR’s dynamic pricing strategy. While some blamed them for ruining the movie-going experience, others called them sneaky for this new strategy. Here are some comments online that you cannot miss about this whole ordeal.
@_PVRCinemas why PVR is charging dynamic pricing in there ticket windows, a ticket which cost 185 , PVR is selling on Rs. 205 in the name of fast filling ( e.g.PVR mahagun) , in fact while booking on book my show they also looting the consumers. Pity.

Oh PVR, just shut up. Why does the same movie ticket go from ₹270 to 350? Apart from your pockets, who is this dynamic pricing for?
Dynamic pricing + outrageously expensive food items, you are single-handedly responsible for getting middle class out of cinemas #FilmTwitter https://t.co/504GwtiNol

Have visited cinemas only once in these 7 months, and that’s coming from someone who is a movie buff and cinema visits were every week in single screen era irrespective of the movie being played, even last year I went for 12-13 movies, this year dont feel like going yet.

I have stopped eating at the movies. And I’m someone who would almost always have a popcorn and Coke while watching a film. PVR has completely screwed up movie going experience in India

ah pvr is saying that dynamic pricing apparently helps us to get tickets at a lucrative rate. i mean it’d be better if pvr were proper shameless and just said they greedy and want to extort more money from us https://t.co/FHbM8IpkTc

It getting more common than you think. Just labeling it as ‘greed’ is not going to stop. It’s a trend now, concerts, tours, shoes, etc.

Has PVR started dynamic pricing for its tickets like flight / Rajdhani tickets. In a screen at Bookmyshow it shows Rs 480 and in payment screen it shows Rs 540. 2 tickets (for 2 persons each) were booked at different rates.Out of 42 seats only 9 seats were occupied. pic.twitter.com/gGYCtfTAV4
