One example of the increasingly advanced services available in India is the ability to purchase meals via food delivery apps while travelling on trains. Food delivery services by companies enable customers to place orders to be delivered to a designated station while travelling vast distances by trains. On social media platform X, a man from Bengaluru who was travelling from Mumbai to Pune made use of this service. He shared his experience in a thread form on X. This post went viral, sparking an online debate concerning the ease of these services.

The X user posted a detailed account of his experience ordering food from Zomato while riding the train. In less than 24 hours, the post garnered around 1 million views. A screenshot of a PNR notification confirming that the meal would be delivered to the passenger’s seat was shared by the user in his post thread.
So I’m travelling to Pune after a while.

While travelling from Mumbai to Pune, X user Sunny R. Gupta tried Zomato’s food delivery service on the train. Instead of ordering meals from the train attendant, he chose to try the app. For delivery, he chose Panvel station and ordered Triple Schezwan rice.
Decided to skip ordering from the attendant and give Zomato on Train a chance.
Found this hotel serving Triple Shezwan Rice. I have an option to choose delivery an any upcoming station. Picked Panvel! pic.twitter.com/8FZkKC9MAZ

He mentioned in the tweet that users could book meals on the app up to four days before their trip. They can also cancel them at any time before preparation starts.

To guarantee on-time delivery, the app continuously monitors the train’s condition. The app notified the user of meal delivery, and the user mentioned the train’s delay.
The train is running delayed and Zomato says my food is prepped and waiting at the station.
Previous station was Thane, next up Panvel!

The user took a humorous turn when he said that since he’s running late and the delivery man is waiting, it’s time for him to exact revenge on Zomato.
This is probably the first time I am taking revenge on @zomato. Food delivery guy is waiting for me and I’m running late.
My message to Zomato: This is not the experience I wished you to have. I would like to thank you for your patience 🤧. As a token of appreciation, I will pay…

Further, the user uploaded a little video of the food being brought to him as the train arrived in Panvel.

But unfortunately the user didn’t get any cutlery.
But alas, no spoons were sent.

He mentioned in his post that he will raise this issue with Zomato; nevertheless, the food was sufficient.
Will raise it with Zomato to ensure the hotel gets to know about the issue.
Food is sufficient though. 😁 pic.twitter.com/SI6tOgDxXf
