Zomato Responds To Viral ‘One-Dish’ Fake Restaurants Allegation In Chandigarh

For the past few days, a lot of speculation, allegations, and theories have been put forth about the food delivery app Zomato regarding a few restaurants selling only ‘one dish’ at extraordinarily high prices. Zomato, the massive meal delivery service in India, has addressed these complaints about dubious “one-dish” restaurants on its network.

Zomato’s Response To Dubious ‘One-Dish’ Restaurants Issue

Following the problem of questionable restaurants appearing on Zomato, the food delivery company posted a response on the social media platform X. The response mentioned that due to possible manipulation of the system to promote banned items, Zomato has delisted fraudulent restaurants from its app. Suspicious listings have led to conspiracy theories, with some claiming the eateries are fronts for the drug trade and others helping with money laundering.

According to Zomato’s spokesperson, the company has delisted any potentially fraudulent restaurants from its platform and has looked into other eateries with small menus and perhaps forbidden goods, as reported by NDTV. The business wants to deal with the problem in its entirety.

Zomato mandates that all restaurants that are listed on the website hold an FSSAI licence and aggressively prohibit products like alcohol, vapes, and cigarettes. Nevertheless, a few restaurants were able to dodge Zomato’s inspections by utilising generic cuisine titles like “Merry Berry” and “Naughty Strawberry.” In order to avoid future occurrences of this kind, the organisation has reinforced its fraud checks.

The Issue Of Dubious Restaurants On Zomato

A Reddit user raised worries about possible money laundering or other dubious business practices after finding odd ads on Zomato in Chandigarh that mentioned restaurants selling a single dish at ridiculously exorbitant pricing. Users’ theories about the causes of the establishment of such facilities were triggered by the viral post.

After reading the names of the dishes mentioned, like ‘Naughty Strawberry’ or ‘Blue Adventure,’ social media users called them flavours of juice that are used in vapes. Looking at the pricing of the dish, some users believed the restaurant to be a front for selling vapes.
