When summer comes, it doesn’t just bring sunshine and mangoes; it also poses a challenge we all struggle with: staying hydrated. As the temperature rises, many of us struggle with fatigue and, in extreme cases, even heatstroke. And drinking plenty of water is a great start, but it might not be enough. Recently, wellness content creator and yoga teacher Snigdha Bharadwaj took to Instagram to share what she calls her ultimate drink to beat the summer heat—and the best part? It’s simple, inexpensive, and deeply rooted in traditional wisdom.

Snigdha shared her go-to summer drink, a DIY infused water the features two powerhouse ingredients: Vetiver roots (Khus roots) and Tragacanth gum (Gond Katira).
Vetiver roots, or khus, are already a summer favourite in many Indian households. Known for their earthy and sweet aroma, these roots are prized in Ayurveda for their natural cooling properties. Not only do they help regulate body temperature, but they also add a subtly refreshing fragrance to water.
Then there’s Gond Katira, a lesser-known yet equally magical ingredient. This natural gum has a jelly-like texture when soaked and is popular for its ability to combat heat, reduce inflammation, aid digestion, and even soothe acidity and bloating.
Make This Summer Infused Water At Home
The process is simple and can become a daily ritual:
- Take a few strands of vetiver roots and a small amount of gond katira in the morning.
- Wash the roots to ensure they are clean before consumption.
- Add the roots and gond katira in a glass or ceramic jug (not plastic or copper, as it may react with the ingredients).
- Pour in 1 litre of water and let the magic infuse.
- Sip on this water throughout the day, refilling the jug whenever it’s empty.
- The next morning, discard the old ingredients and prepare a fresh batch.
This drink isn’t just a hydration hack for summer but also a wellness ritual. The vetiver roots naturally cool the body from the inside out, and the Gond Katira regulates your system, reduces inflammation, and supports digestion. The infused water keeps you refreshed and helps prevent dehydration.
So, before you reach for another sugary drink, consider sipping on a bottle of this traditional goodness.
