In a bid to tackle plastic pollution, India will soon stop manufacturing, importing and selling single-use plastic items from July 1. Foodies! Single-Use Plastic Items Banned In India From July 1
According to a report by Hindustan Times, single-use plastic (SUP) items with low utility and high littering potential will be banned all across India from July 1. This includes plastic plates, cutlery, earbuds, straws, packing films around sweet boxes, plastic flags, plastic sticks and even cigarette packets among others. Officials revealed to news agencies that vendors can use any non-plastic alternatives like compostable and biodegradable plastics.

Violators Must Pay Heavy Fines
Moreover, people who continue selling, importing or manufacturing single-use plastic from July 1 onwards, will have to pay hefty fines. The Environment Protection (EP) Act prescribes imprisonment of up to five years with a fine of around ₹1 lakh. It can be both or one.
