Tired of waiting in long queues at the toll gates? Not anymore. The National Highways Authority of India( NHAI) has issued a new set of guidelines to reduce traffic at the toll booths and to encourage the use of FASTag. Taking to Twitter, NHAI stated, “If there is a queue of waiting vehicles of more than 100 metres due to some reason, the vehicles will be allowed to pass without paying toll till the queue comes within 100 meters from the toll booth.” Read on to know more.

You Won’t Need To Pay The Toll Fee If The Queue Crosses The Yellow Line
NHAI has released new guidelines for smooth operation and reduction of traffic at toll plazas. At a distance of 100 metres from the toll booth, a yellow line will be marked. If the queue exceeds this line, the vehicles can pass without paying the toll taxes. Additionally, NHAI has stated that the service that per vehicle should not exceed 10 seconds, even during peak hours. Also, with the COVID-19 pandemic in place, many travellers are preferring to make toll payments via FASTag as it eliminates the chances of human contact between toll operators and drivers. NHAI Transitioned In 100% Cashless Tolling Through FASTags
In February 2021, NHAI transitioned to 100 percent cashless tolling through FASTags. As reported by Business Today, NHAI had said in a statement, “Following the guidelines for mandatory payment of user fee through FASTag at the toll plazas from the midnight of 15/16 February 2021, NHAI has successfully transitioned to 100 percent cashless tolling at National Highways fee plazas across the country.”Reportedly, the FASTag penetration has already touched nearly 96 percent in toll booths. In some booths, the penetration has even reached 99 percent.
