Travel Time Between Chennai & Surat Will Cut Down By 6 Hours With This New ₹50K Crore Highway

If you have ever travelled by road from Surat to Chennai, you know that you need around 27 hours to cover the distance. However, with a new, proposed expressway, the distance will be reduced by 6 and half hours. The Union government has approved a ₹50,000 crore expressway project for developing faster connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Gujarat. This comes as a major boost to Chennai’s road connectivity. The new expressway will cut down the distance by 330 km, enabling drivers to avoid congested running between, Bengaluru, Mumbai, and Pune.

The Distance Between Chennai & Surat Will Come Down By 6.5 Hours

From 1,600 km, the distance between Chennai and Surat will be reduced to 1,270 km. Along with faster connectivity, the expressway project will also make North India more accessible by road. The expressway can be used to transfer the goods between Jaipur, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Jammu. Similarly, goods from the northern parts of India can be transported faster to the South Indian states.

The New Project Will Enable Reduction Of Fuel Consumption

The proposed project will also enable a reduction in fuel consumption for road transporters. Many roads that are part of the project are national highways. Easy connectivity to Surat also means access to other cities of the state like Ahmedabad, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Vadodara, and Rajkot. Many other expressways such as the Delhi-Mumbai expressway to decongest the existing road infrastructure are underway in India.
