Travel From Delhi To Meerut In Just 50 Min; Expressway Opens With Free Toll For 1 Week

Phase 2 and 4 of the first-ever 14-lane highway of India, the Delhi-Meerut Expressway will be operational now. The phase 1 of the expressway runs from Akshardham to UP Gate. Phase 3 of the expressway runs from Dasna to Hapur for 22 kilometres. These two phases are already operational. Phase 2 and 4 of the expressway will become operational from April 1, 2021. Phase 2 will run for 19 kilometres from UP Gate to Dasna and the 32-km-long phase 4 will connect Dasna and Meerut. Also, for the first week after reopening, the travellers do not need to pay any toll charges, till the approval of rates by the Union ministry of road transport and highway. The expressway will reduce the distance between Delhi and Meerut to just 50 minutes. Read on to know more.

The Highway Has A Total Of 5 Flyovers Now

You will now be able to travel from Delhi to Meerut in 50 minutes via the Delhi-Meerut expressway. Initially, the time taken to travel between the two cities was around two hours. Along the highway, there are four foot over bridgers and five flyovers. It has a hanging garden as well. The authorities had completed the Delhi section of the expressway in just 18 months. The phase 4 of the expressway running from Dasna to Meerut is a six-lane expressway. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the first phase of the expressway in 2018.

The Expressway Is Lit By Solar Power

The illumination of the Delhi-Meerut expressway is done by solar power. For illumination, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has installed around 5,000 streetlights. It has 2.5 metres wide cycle tracks on both side and a 2 metres wide footpath as well. The total length of the highway is nearly 96 kilometres, with the first 27 kilometres being 14 lane and the rest being 6 lanes. NCRTC had anticipated that the Delhi-Meerut line will see around 9.75 lakh of ridership by 2024. Meanwhile, did you know about this all-female motorcycle association called The Bikerni?
