Zanzibar is increasingly gaining popularity as a tourist destination. Recently, the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar announced that it is making travel insurance compulsory for all foreign travellers. It is to ensure the safety of all who travel to this archipelago. This mandate will be brought into effect from the beginning of October. Here are all of the other important details that you would need to know about this particular mandate in Zanzibar.

Zanzibar Makes Travel Insurance Compulsory From October

According to an article which was recently published by the Travel Trade Journal or the TTJ, this particular announcement was made in an advisory. The advisory was issued on August 5, 2024. As per the advisory, all foreign travellers are supposed to have viable Inbound Travel Insurance.

The insurance must cover up to 92 days of their travel. In addition to this, it should also have comprehensive coverage for emergencies such as repatriation, evacuation and other such instances. Only the residents of Zanzibar are excluded from this policy.

What is more, this travel insurance must be exclusively purchased from the Zanzibar Insurance Corporation. If reports are to go by, a QR code will be provided for the insurance purchase and all foreign travellers will be required to complete the process before they start out on their journey.

This policy has been formulated to protect travellers. It demonstrates the commitment to safety and security that the archipelago region strives to implement.

If, for any reason, a foreign national fails to arrive in the country without travel insurance, then they may be denied entry into the country. The immigration checkpoints may not allow them to proceed any further. Hence, to avoid any hassle, it is best to make sure that you have your travel insurance with you once you enter the region.
