Understanding people’s dietary preferences and concerns, Zomato has launched a new feature on its app. Zomato’s CEO Deepinder Goyal took to X (formerly Twitter) to launch a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ along with a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on the app. This initiative is to cater to India’s large vegetarian population and was taken up by Zomato after lots of feedback from customers. Here’s everything you need to know about this feature.
Zomato Adds A ‘Pure Veg Mode’ On The App
To solve for their dietary preferences, we are today, launching a “Pure Veg Mode" along with a “Pure Veg Fleet” on Zomato, for customers who have a 100% vegetarian dietary preference. pic.twitter.com/xzV9y9IQbU

Considering the feedback of many vegetarian customers and the large vegetarian population of India, Zomato has decided to launch a ‘Pure Veg Mode’ along with a ‘Pure Veg Fleet’ on their app. This initiative was announced by the company’s CEO Deepinder Goyal X (formerly Twitter). In his long post, Deepinder explained the entire idea and thought behind the move.
Pure Veg Mode will consist of a curation of restaurants that serve only pure vegetarian food, and will exclude all restaurants which serve any non-veg food item.

He also mentioned that restaurants in the ‘Pure Veg Mode’ on Zomato will only have food outlets that cook and serve vegetarian food.
Our dedicated Pure Veg Fleet will only serve orders from these pure veg restaurants. This means that a non-veg meal, or even a veg meal served by a non-veg restaurant will never go inside the green delivery box meant for our Pure Veg Fleet. pic.twitter.com/x9H7cAbgFX

Please note that this Pure Veg Mode, or the Pure Veg Fleet doesn’t serve or alienate any religious, or political preference 🫶

In the future, we plan to add more specialised fleets for special customer needs. For example, there’s a special cake delivery fleet coming up with hydraulic balancers which prevent your cake from getting smudged during delivery.

This feature will see a phased roll out across the country in the next few weeks. We remain committed to listening to our customers, and serving our community in the best possible way.

In his post, Deepinder shared his future plans as well. He added that Zomaton plans to “add more specialised fleets for special customer needs. For example, there’s a special cake delivery fleet coming up with hydraulic balancers which prevent your cake from getting smudged during delivery.”

As a non vegetarian myself every time I see a Hindu deliver my food, I feel bad. I won’t know if he has ever consumed meat or not. But to pick it up and deliver it to me safely felt a big thing for me. This is a nice initiative for them. Well done
