Did you ask – how different can one beach be from another? Well, you haven’t been to Mauritius yet! Over 300 km of postcard-worthy beaches, Mauritius makes for an ideal tropical holiday destination.

The never ending coastline creates innumerable breathtaking lagoons and plenty of calm water spots to swim in. Surrounded by coral reefs on all sides, this island nation is rich in marine life. The waters here are also great for anyone looking to explore the ocean.

Here is a list of the beaches that I loved and you cannot afford to miss on your trip to Mauritius.

1. Blue Bay Beach

Just a few minutes drive away from the airport, Blue Bay Beach is a perfect first stop on the paradise island. Situated in the South East of Mauritius, close to the city of Mahebourg, it offers crystal clear waters and a calm bay to relax in, all year around. It also happens to be the favourite picnic spot for locals whenever there is a holiday. So, a great place to socialise with the locals.

Not interested? Finding yourself a private spot on this beach isn’t too difficult either.Mauritius2. Ile Aux Cerf

Mauritius’s very own party island looks like it might be right out of a fantasy movie. The entire island is surrounded by calm, shallow waters. The ultra mild currents create the best lounging spots you could hope for. However, ensure you make a day trip to this playground from Blue Bay since this island shuts down completely by 5 pm. You could also choose to carry your own beer crates into the small natural pools.

Amongst Mauritius’s most popular tourist destinations, it offers every water sport imaginable from parasailing to water skiing. You could even play a round of golf in what is supposed to be one of the world’s finest settings. Make sure you dedicate a whole day to Ile Aux Cerf so you can enjoy the many activities, bazaars and the food offered here.

3. Trou Aux Biches

The landscape of this beach stands out since it is lined with casuarina trees that provide the best relief from the sun. The fact that there is so much shade is what makes it the kind of place you could spend the entire day in.

A 2 km long white sand turquoise water beach, Trou Aux Biches is considered to be one of the most serene beaches in Mauritius. You might want to pack your snorkelling gear and make a day of it.

4. Mont Choisy

Now let’s talk about MY favourite beach – Mon Choisy. Just a few kilometres away from Trou Aux Biches, Mauritius longest beach is an absolute dreamy stretch.

What makes this beach unforgettable for me is its never-ending coastline that forms a gentle arc with shallow water perfect for swimming in. They have recently started a Sub-Scooter as well for a closer view of the marine life.

Although popular for its beautiful shoreline, it remains quite empty through the week. If you’re looking for a quiet beach to spend your day and unwind, head to Mont Choisy. Stay to watch the sunset over the most stunning blues. This is the beach that gave me my most relaxed days in Mauritius and the kind you could pack some snacks to and make an entire day off.

5. Pereybere Beach

Another stunning beach located in the North of Mauritius is Pereybere Beach. This intimate beach is essentially only a small lagoon but it offers perhaps the best, almost still swimming waters.

The area around Pereybere beach is dotted with a number of restaurants and cafes. Makes for a perfect picnic place, don’t you think? With a stark difference in personality to the other beaches, Pereybere is perfect for those like me, who don’t mind the crowds. Although only a small creek, in close proximity to some of Mauritius’s most well-known postcard stretches, Pereybere still manages to stand out as a lively spot that you can expect to break into a party at any time of the day.
