Now you can plan your weekend getaway to Jaipur quite often as the new Semi-High Speed Train will take you from Delhi-Jaipur in just 90 mins.

What Is It?

Your weekend getaway plans and business travels are just about to get an upgrade as the Ministry of Railways has signed a MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) with an Italian infrastructure and engineering company FS-Italferr. The plan is to soon launch the semi-high speed corridor that would allow trains to speed up to 200 kmph. This will further reduce the travel time between two crucial cities.

What’s In It?

What normally takes longer to travel between Delhi to Jaipur would now take just 90 minutes by train. Currently, the Delhi-Jaipur trains run at an average speed of about 95 kmph which takes almost 4 hours and 40 minutes of travel time.

If the project were to get the final nod from the Railway Board, it would make travelling way easier and faster between major cities. As India is looking forward to its first bullet train between Mumbai and Ahmedabad, Piyush Goyal-led Railway Ministry is already considering the possibility of setting up semi-high speed corridors between crucial cities.

The engineering company behind this has already been tasked to study about the feasibility for setting up a semi-high speed rail corridor that would reduce the travel time to 90 minutes. The Ministry of Railways has already written to its two divisions, Northern Railways and North Western Railways on the same.

If this gets implemented well, the Indian Railways would be a real game-changer and give tough competition to the airlines.
