Mumbai’s Historic Sassoon Docks In Colaba Gets A Funky Artsy Makeover & It Is Every Photographer’s Delight

Mumbai’s 142-year-old gem, the Sassoon Docks at Colaba gets a makeover and it has now become the spot for funky street art. 

What Is It?

Popular as the largest fish market in Mumbai, the Sassoon Docks is now getting a colourful makeover! St+Art Mumbai is bringing a breath of fresh air to the historic Sassoon Docks. This is one of the oldest docks of the city which is still open to public. The government is taking extra efforts to revive some of the iconic locations of Mumbai.

This historic dock is being dolled up with beautiful paintings, murals & surreal installations. 30 artists from around the world sprucing up the docks over the next 50 days. Clearly an instragrammer’s delight, you can witness the transformation for free. This project is part of the tide change to make Mumbai a world-class harbour city.

What’s In It? 

The Sassoon Dock Art Project will host workshops, tours & even a hip hop jam. You can indulge in audio-visual experiences, screenings, art exhibitions, murals and installations. This festival is in collaboration with Bonjour India, Singapore Tourism Board, and Institut Français. The International artists that will be a part of this festival will be Tan Zi Xi, LIVIL (Olivier Holzl), Clemens Behr, and The Yok & Sheryo. Whether they might talk about ocean pollution, or about bringing the community close together, every art form represents a message.

The weekends this November will be all about art and the galore with this project and you can also be a part of special sessions with artists like Ayaz Basrai, Faizan Khatri and Sameep Padora.

What Else?

The St+art Mumbai festival will also be featuring budding artists from local cities of India. They will be having a theme of #KindComments where they transform the walls of Sassoon Docks into a place where people come to confide in love and peace. With this initiative, they have transformed walls of cities like New York, Dallas, Tokyo, Mexico and Jakarta into beacons of kindness. Planning to do the same here, they are encouraging people with their art to make this a kind and wonderful place for everyone.

Expect more art to pop up around the city at Churchgate, western railways, Dharavi & Jindal Mansion. And be ready to witness your very own city get a colourful makeover. There will be graffiti workshops, guided walks, and interactions with international artists as well.
