1 Km Stretch Of Road Got ‘Stolen’ Overnight In MP; Villages File Complaint

In a bizarre incident, a 1-kilometre stretch of road disappeared overnight in a remote village of Madhya Pradesh’s Sidhi district.  The villagers had also lodged a complaint to the local police regarding the disappearance of the road. The villagers claimed that a road existed in that place but went missing the next morning. The news also reached the  Janapad Panchayat office, leaving the officers baffled. The road under question is in the Mendhra village under Manjholi Janpad Panchayat. Here’s what exactly happened.

What Exactly Happened?

Reportedly, the road was entered in the in panchayat records as a kachcha road 2017. After six months, a pucca road was constructed with a budget of ₹10 lakhs. As per locals, the connecting road was built on papers and the funds meant for the project were misappropriated by government staffers. When the deputy sarpanch and villagers doubted the panchayat record details, the construction agency attempted to hide the matter and deposited some material on the road in the night. But they were washed away by heavy rains by morning around a couple of days ago.

Revealing the corruption, deputy sarpanch Ramesh Kumar Yadav said that the road was well constructed till a couple of days ago in the night. But it got stolen in the morning. The stones dumped there had also disappeared. Locals claimed that they employed this unique technique to alert the administration when they learnt that the road wasn’t constructed but the budget was embezzled.
