Imagine buying a pack of bread from the grocery store, only to discover remains of, what looks like, a rat inside it! That’s exactly what two consumers in Japan found after opening a pack of bread from Pasco Shikishima Corp. After the consumer’s complaint, the company recalled 104,000 packages from the market and issued a public apology. They have even promised compensation to the consumers who found the remains of a rat in the bread pack.

Two people in Gunma Prefecture, northwest of Tokyo, have reportedly found rat remains in their Pasco Shikishima Corp. bread packs. After they lodged their complaint, the company recalled 104,000 loaves of bread from the market. They even halted operations at their Tokyo factory. According to local Japanese media, the two consumers found “small animal” remains in their bread packs. This small animal is being suspected to be a rat.

Pasco Shikishima Corp. is a famous bread company in Japan. Their products are sold in areas like Ibaraki, Niigata, Kanagawa, Fukushima, Aomori and Tokyo. Besides bread, they make rolls, bagels and muffins as well.

This news is concerning because it adds to Japan’s growing cases of food issues in the last few weeks. Earlier this month, more than 1,000 kids reported sickness after consuming milk. Not to forget, two people who got sick after eating steak at a restaurant. In March, a food poisoning outbreak from a health supplement product claimed five lives.

Company Apologises & Promises Compensation

Pasco Shikishima Corp. has recalled 104,000 loaves of bread from the market. They have even halted operations at their Tokyo factory for the time being. Acknowledging the mishap, they issued a public apology and even promised compensation to the two consumers.

Here’s what the company had to say about this matter, “We will do our utmost to strengthen our quality controls so that this will never happen again. We ask for your understanding and your cooperation.”
