13 Districts In Bihar On High Alert After Flood-Hit Nepal Releases Water From Dams; Rescue Teams Prepared

In case you were not aware, Nepal is currently inundated with water. In order to bring the situation under control, Nepal has released water from its barrages. As much as 10.5 lakh cusecs of water were released from the barrages. This means that now, the border districts of Bihar are on high alert. Here are all of the important details that you would need to know about the situation in Bihar.

Bihar Districts On High Alert After Flood-Hit Nepal Releases Dam Water

According to an article which was recently published by News18, Nepal released water from two barrages – Kosi and Gandak. After the water was released, a number of dams and rivers in Bihar reported a breach in embankment. This has put districts near the border at an especially high risk of flooding.

If reports are to go by, as many as 13 districts are on high alert. These are Araria, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, Darbhanga, Gopalganj, Katihar, Kishananj, Khagaria, Madhepura, Madhubani, Motihari, Muzaffarpur, Purnia, Saharsa, Samastipur, Saran, Shivhar, Sitamarhi, Supaul and Vaishali.

This means that more than 16 lakh people are affected by the floods. Thankfully though, no fatalities have been reported so far. However, what is concerning is that the floodwater has entered the Valmiki Tiger Reserve.

Rescue Operations Team Prepared For Any Situation Now

As per the officials, the rescue operations team are prepared and ready for any situation that may arise. They are prepared for rescuing affected people. The embankments are also being monitored on a 24-hour basis to look out and prepare for dangerous situations.

The Birpur barrage on the Kosi River released a whopping 6.61 lakh cusecs of water. It is dubbed the highest discharge in the last 56 years. This amount of discharge has been unprecedented and the low-lying areas are especially at risk.

It is hoped that everyone emerges from danger with as little damage as possible.
