135Km Green Pathway, 50 Sports Facilities & More; Riyadh Unveils New Sports Boulevard Project

Riyadh’s ambitious Sports Boulevard project is well underway, marking a significant step towards transforming the Saudi capital into one of the world’s most liveable cities. Spanning an impressive 135 kilometres from Wadi Hanifah in the West to Wadi Al Sulai in the East, this monumental initiative will connect the entire city through a network of green pathways catering to various outdoor activities such as cycling, walking, horse riding, and sports.

Sports Boulevard Project Comes To Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

Construction is progressing on schedule, with the first phase slated to open to the public later this year. The Sports Boulevard will encompass eight distinct districts, each offering a unique blend of recreational facilities, architectural landmarks, and commercial opportunities. Highlights include a cutting-edge amphitheatre, performance spaces, artist exhibition areas, and designated zones for retail and real estate ventures.

Green Transformation

By its completion in 2029, the project is expected to create over 4.4 million square meters of new green spaces and plant more than 170,000 trees. Residents and visitors alike will have access to world-class sporting facilities catering to 50 different sports, further enhancing the city’s appeal as a vibrant and active urban hub.

Aligning with Vision 2030

Launched by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz, in March 2019, the Sports Boulevard project aligns with the ambitious goals of Saudi Vision 2030. By promoting outdoor activities and fostering community engagement, the initiative aims to improve health, wellness, and overall quality of life for Riyadh’s residents.

Phased Openings

The project’s construction has been progressing rapidly, with a series of phased openings scheduled between 2024 and 2028. Key elements include The Cycling Bridge and Promenade, which will provide enhanced connectivity and recreational opportunities for visitors. Other developments, such as the King Khalid Road Underpass and the Sands Sports Park, are also underway, contributing to the project’s holistic vision for the city.

As Riyadh’s Sports Boulevard takes shape, it heralds a new era of urban development and community well-being in the Saudi capital. With its focus on green spaces, sports facilities, and cultural amenities, the project exemplifies the city’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and enhancing the overall quality of life for its residents.
