The Azimganj Serai is one of the oldest Mughal structures in Delhi and dates back to the 16th century. Now, the Delhi government is renovating the monument to revive its old charm. Recently, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia and Delhi Archaeological Department officials had a glimpse into the progress of the project. Sisodia stated that after the revamping is done, Azimganj Serai will be one of the popular tourist attractions in Delhi. He added that the historic monument will also create awareness about the rich history of the capital.
Azimganj Serai- The Hidden Gem In Nizamuddin, Delhi
Azimganj Serai is now hidden behind the bushes and lies out of the eyes of tourists. Due to negligence, the building underwent massive decay in the last fifty years. It lies in a corner of Nizamuddin, near Sunder Nursery. The monument is just 600 metres away from the Humayun’s Tomb. The Department of Archaeology, Delhi is carrying out the renovation. It is responsible for the conservation of the historic monuments in Delhi. Azimganj Serai is a square-shaped monument featuring archs, a spectacular courtyard and ravishing bastions.
A statement by the Delhi government said, “The conservation project of Azimganj Serai aims to revive its lost cultural significance and architectural integrity. The monument has seen a significant loss of architectural features such as chambers, arches and masonry walls in the last fifty years due to loss of connectivity and no maintenance.”

Ancient Monuments Of Delhi Are Undergoing Renovation
Sisodia has stated that like Azimganj Serai, other forgotten ancient monuments within Delhi will also undergo renovation. Delhi is home to a plethora of historic attractions like Qutub Minar, Humayun’s Tomb, Agrasen Ki Baoli, Red Fort and India Gate. These renovated structures will be additions to the existing tourist spots and will help in boosting tourism in the capital.
