As we prepare to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8, Airbnb is also celebrating the ever-growing community of women hosts and guests in India. In a recent report, the vacation property rental company shared some interesting data that revealed how women hosts are shaping the future of the hospitality sector in India. Women Hosts Are Shaping Hospitality Sector In India, Feels Airbnb

This International Women’s Day, Airbnb is celebrating gender equality through entrepreneurship, the spirit of adventure, and economic empowerment. In a new report, they revealed that women hosts make up nearly 30% of Airbnb’s host community! And, over 56% received 5-star reviews from guests.

These women have not only provided welcoming experiences for guests but have also achieved significant financial success of their own. In 2024, women hosts in India cumulatively earned approximately ₹2.6 billion (₹260 crore) through hosting! That’s not all, almost 35% of ‘Guest Favourite’ listings in India are hosted by women, thus proving their excellence in the hospitality sector.

Commenting on this amplifying growth of women hosts, Amanpreet Singh Bajaj, Airbnb’s Country Head for India and Southeast Asia, said, “At Airbnb, we’re committed to accelerating action for gender equality by creating a platform where women can thrive and our strong community of women hosts & guests is a testament to that. Our data shows that women hosts are delivering exceptional hospitality while achieving financial independence, and women travellers are increasingly exploring the world with confidence.”

Preferred Destinations By Indian Female Travelers In 2024

Airbnb data also shows that female millennial travellers are leading the charge for bookings on the platform. They are followed closely by Gen Zs. Airbnb found that the majority of female travellers prefer to travel as a pair of two or in groups. They usually plan trips that last between two to six nights, reflecting a preference for short yet immersive experiences.

So, where do women globetrotters prefer to travel? Domestically, Goa was the most popular amongst Indian women travellers in 2024. This is followed by Delhi, Bengaluru, Pune, and Jaipur. Interestingly, Varanasi saw a massive 75% increase in bookings compared to 2023, making it the top trending domestic destination for women. Internationally, London emerged as the top outbound destination for Indian women in 2024. Dubai, Bangkok, Paris, and Rome followed close behind.
