Walk through markets during Diwali, and you will get to smell the festivities, quite literally! In Kerala’s Alappuzha, a sweet shop, The New Gujarati Sweet Center has been serving traditional Gujarati delights for three decades now!

Walk on the streets of Alappuzha in Kerala during Diwali, and you will be enchanted by the fragrance of delectable sweets. Well, not just south Indian sweets but also traditional Gujarati sweets. Yes, The New Gujarati Sweet Center has been serving the best of traditional sweets for three decades now. 

Gujaratis are fond of sweets, and this sweet shop brought in a wave of these Gujju favorites to Kerala’s Alappuzha. The store is well-known for their sweet box, which comes with a wide range of candies like Laddu, Mohanthal, Peda, Barfi, and Jalebi. Come here to savour their mouthwatering desserts.

Alappuzha is well-known for its traditional Kerala cuisine, but the addition of a Gujarati sweet shop gives the area’s culinary offerings a more varied and interesting aspect. Rich flavours, premium ingredients, and careful craftsmanship combine to create Gujarati sweets that are the epitome of celebration and tradition. The shop’s dedication to creating a genuinely memorable Diwali is evident in every taste.

Pedas are delicious, spherical, and flat. This dish, which calls for milk, sugar, ghee, and elaichi powder, has a cute name and a nutritious recipe. 

Next is the laddu—small, round, and capable of rolling right into your heart. 

In Gujarat, India, halwasan is a well-known variety of halwa. Gujaratis mostly use it for religious purposes, particularly on important occasions or during family pujas.

Milk mawa is a concoction of milk and khoya and is high in calcium and proteins. It is used to make Ghari candies. This nutritious, sweet meal has a long history of being consumed to boost vigour and is native to Gujarat.

The popular North Indian dessert Soan Papdi has a cube-like structure that gives it an attractive and adorable appearance. Everyone finds it irresistible and cannot resist. Ghee, milk, cardamom, sugar, and gram flour are the constituents of Soan Papdi.

Mohanthal is a meal made of almonds, chickpea flour, ghee, sugar, milk, and pistachio nuts, among other nutritious and regal components. It is typically eaten during the holidays of Diwali and Janmashtami and is well-known for being a healthy food.

Gujarati Gud Papdi is a simple, traditional dessert. It has “gud,” or jaggery, which is not only tasty but also beneficial to the brain and skin. 

This dish’s three primary ingredients are jaggery, wheat flour, and ghee. It is enhanced with dry fruits and typically served during holidays like Diwali, Holi, and Teej.

Made with khoya and milk, barfi is a delicious dessert that comes in a variety of flavours, including chocolate, vanilla, and mawa. Gujaratis find it exceptional and unique, even though it is widely obtained everywhere. (As per Pink Lungi)
