Living in India, this might not come as a surprise to many, but Indian cities can be some of the most polluted ones in the world. And now, conclusive proof of this fact has been given in a study by IQAir Index. Recently, it released a report which ranked 50 cities worldwide with the worst quality of air. India featured prominently in the list. To give the reader an idea, six of the 10 most air-polluted cities in the world are Indian.
Study Finds That 6 Out Of 10 Most Air-Polluted Cities In The World Are Indian
IQAir recently released the data for the worst quality of air for the year 2022. The top 10 cities featured in the list were mainly from Asian countries. India had the most number of cities on the list, with Pakistan following close at the heels.
According to the list, all the Indian cities that were mentioned in the list exceeded the guidelines provided by the World Health Organisation or WHO by over 10 times. WHO utilises PM2.5, an indicator of air quality that reveals the size of the particles in a given volume of air.
Out of the top 10 most air-polluted cities, 6 are from India; and out of the 50 cities ranked in the index, 39 are from India. This means that India is the most heavily featured country on the list. Other Asian countries such as China and Pakistan are also featured heavily on the list, but none rival India.

Top 10 Cities With The Worst Quality Of Air Worldwide
Despite being featured heavily in the list, India hasn’t bagged the top spot in the list. That rank is held by the city of Lahore in Pakistan. Here are the top 10 most air-polluted cities in the world: –

- Bhiwadi, India
- Delhi (NCT), India
- Peshawar, Pakistan
- Darbhanga, India
- Asopur, India
- N’Djamena, Chad
- New Delhi, India
- Patna, India
