7 Wildlife Sanctuaries In North-East To Bookmark For A Serene 2024

Are you looking for places where you can just bask in nature and listen to the pristine sounds of wildlife, that too in the northeastern states of India? You are on the right path. The seven sisters of North East are Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Mizoram, Nagaland and Tripura. We are gonna mention some of the serene and un-popular wildlife sanctuaries of north northeast. Buckle up for great safaris for 2024, it’s gonna be a roaring one!

7 Wildlife Sanctuaries Of North-East India

1. Namdapha National Park, Arunachal Pradesh

This wildlife sanctuary is located in Changlang District. It is known to be a place where wildlife is protected with much care. It is also a spot where you can enjoy camping inside the park. Plan a cool winter camping trip soon. It houses a wide range of wildlife like snow leopards, tigers, capped langurs, tigers, red pandas, Asiatic black bears, red foxes, snow loris, wolves, and more.

2. Orang National Park, Assam

Want to skip the evergreen Kaziranga Park? Come to Mini Kaziranga, Orang National Park. its uncanny resemblance to Kaziranga Park with such lush grasslands, pristine streams and more makes it a mini version. Just like Kaziranga Park, Orang also is boastful of housing one-horned rhinos along with Royal Bengal tigers. It is situated on the northern banks of the Brahmaputra River which makes it a perfect spot for beautiful scenery.

3. Balpakram National Park, Meghalaya

It is situated near Garo Hills in Meghalaya at an elevation of 3000 m. Have you ever heard about a barking deer? Dogs bark, right but here you will find a barking deer among wild water buffalos, tigers, golden cats, marbled cats, elephants, and red panda. Do you remember you were taught about a special plant called pitcher plant, you will also get to see it here. If you explore nicely you will be able to find Deoban Wari. Looks like this wildlife sanctuary has many unseen and interesting stuff.

4. Keibul Lamjao National Park, Manipur

Firstly, Keibul Lamjao National Park is the only serene floating national park in the world. You will see floating decomposed plant materials that are called phumdis in the Manipuri language.It is better than the pictures and we are sure you might have witnessed similar scenery in any anime. It is a wetland ecosystem where you can also spot migratory birds you visit during the season. You can spot the endangered Sangai deer, brown-altered deer, sambars, panthers, muntjac, leopards, and tigers here.

5. Thorangtlang Wildlife Sanctuary, Mizoram

Are you a fan of cute little and playful elephants? This wildlife sanctuary which became a reserve forest in 1982 is the ideal place for you to take a serene trip in 2024. It is known for the migrations of wild elephants from the land of Bangladesh to Mizoram. One major reason is its location on the Indo-Bangladesh border. Wildlife and flora are in bountiful abundance here. You will definitely feel at peace and one with nature.

6. Ntangki National Park, Nagaland

It is 200 sq. km situated in Peren District where the wild buffaloes and hoolok gibbon are found. These are only found in Nagaland. It is a thick rainforest as it is located in the low-rainfall regions of Nagaland. The hick rainforest opens up a perfect opportunity for many flora and fauna. You can spot sloth bears, wild dogs and flying squirrels while some of the trees are Elaeocarpus ganitrus and Shorea assamica.

7. Sepahijala Wildlife Sanctuary, Tripura

It is a full package with a natural botanical garden, artificial lake and zoological gardens and it becomes a better sanctuary to visit because the lush greens stay almost all around the year. It is always better to experience flora and fauna amidst the lush. What great is it to witness a leopard cross a dried grassland? People are also fascinated by the Clouded Leopard enclosure; it’s their play area. You can even go boating at Amrit Sagar and Abasarika Lake.
