Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary Is Karnataka’s New Safari Destination. Here’s What’s In Store

Nestled in the Chamarajanagar district of Karnataka, Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary has a high density of elephants and tigers. But the forest is actually known for being the birthplace of the infamous dacoit Veerappan. Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary is Karnataka’s newest safari destination and it also includes a Veerapan train. Here’s what’s in store for you.

Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary Takes Visitors Along Veerapan’s Trail

According to a report by The Times Of India, Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary will soon open its gates to visitors yearning for wildlife safaris. Visitors can go on jungle safaris in Gopinatham, which has been off the tourist map for long due to the evil activities of the slain-bandit Veerapan.

But now, with Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary starting wildlife safaris, visitors can explore this untouched forest of Karnataka. In a bid to promote eco-tourism in the state, visitors can actually hop on a Mystery Trail Camp. What’s exciting about this is that you can visit places associated with Veerapan. It will also take you to the memorial of IFS Officer, Srinivas who was killed by the dacoit. Jungle lodges and resorts have maintained this trail.

The best part is that the safari also includes a pit stop at Karnataka’s beloved Hogenakkal Falls. There’s a morning safari from 6 am to 10 am. And then an evening one from 4 pm to 6 pm. As per TOI, the wildlife safari ticket at Cauvery Wildlife Sanctuary costs ₹400 per person.

It’s interesting to note that this wildlife sanctuary is one of the least explored destinations in Karnataka. This is because for years it was feared due to the antics of the dacoit, Veerapan. But now as Karnataka starts safaris and promotes tourism here, it may be painted in a new light.

Also, apart from safaris, the state will also conduct water sports activities at Hogenakkal Falls. A 3-km drive away from Gopinatham, adventure junkies can go for wildlife safaris and water sports both in one go.
