The term “Aatmanir Bharat’ made headlines soon after PM Modi spoke about it for the first time. The word validated the day-to-day achievements of the countless Indians who survived the perils of a pandemic. Therefore it is not surprising for the term Aatmanirbharta’ implying self-reliance to be named by Oxford Languages as its Hindi word of the year 2020.
The Term Aatmanirbharta Has A Huge Cultural Significance
The Oxford Hindi word of the year should reflect the passing year’s ethos, mood, or preoccupations. The word chosen by an advisory panel of language experts is a term of cultural significance. In a statement, Oxford Languages said when Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced India’s COVID-19 recovery package, he emphasised the need of becoming become self-reliant as a country and as a society. Soon after the PM’s announcement, there was a massive increase in the usage of ‘Aatmanirbharta’.

Atmanirbhar Bharat Campaign Showcased In Republic Day Parade
One of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign’s standout successes is the large-scale manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine in India. The Department of Biotechnology showcased the Aatmanirbhar Bharat campaign during the Republic Day parade and highlighted the COVID-19 vaccine development process in its tableau.
